The core of Mark Powell & Lariat is family; (Mark and John and brothers, Bishop is their father and professional musician of 20 years and beginning musical success with the 60's rock band The Cavaliers.) The three have played music together since 3 years of age, have been written up by Texas Monthly as "a very talented family trio" when at ages 5 and 7, playing for the Charles Stenholm Fun Day in 1985. Mark Powell pursued country music songwriting full-time in Nashville (2004-2006) which led to record offer in affiliation with Universal South.  Headlined in countless dance halls/rodeos and large private venues such as Cattle Barron's Ball (Lubbock), Cowboy Symposium- (Ruidoso NM), Original Cowboys Christmas Ball (Anson), Royal Caribbean Cruises (Bahamas), United States Beef Counsel Shows (CO), Cottonbarron's Ball (Plainview), October Fest in (San Angelo), Western Heritage (Abilene), West Texas Fair and Rodeo (Abilene), Sandhill Rodeo (Odessa), Nolan Ryan Benefits, Watt Matthews Days (Albany), etc. Lariat is also one of the few elite to be sponsored by Resistol. Over the 12 year span of playing music full-time, Mark Powell & Lariat have played with, alongside, and opened for: Merle Haggard, Johnny Gimble, The Texas Playboys, Tracy Bird, Johnny Lee, Tommy Overstreet, Johnny Bush, Pat Flynn, Western Flyer, Lionel Cartwright, Red Stegall, Doug Supernaw, Mac Davis, Cooder Graw, Jake Hooker, Darrell McCall, Frenchy Bircke, Curtis Potter, Asleep at the Wheel, Micheal Martin Murphy, (to name a few). Their first CD titled "Overdue" (2003) landed listener success with their first releases "Mexican Honeymoon" and "Doublewide Dreaming" in Texas. Style-wise, Mark Powell & Lariat is TRUE western swing n' honky-tonk- the kind of music that has made Texas dance halls famous. A one of the very few original dance hall bands, Mark Powell & Lariat have the pursuit of bringing real country music back into the spotlight. Look for our new CD that will be releasing soon, "Homegrown."  We'll keep you updated when it becomes available.  Thanks for stoppin' in. SUPPORT REAL TRADITIONAL COUNTRY MUSIC!
